Forty days.

Today is the final day of summer, according to my calendar. It's drizzling outside and a bit chilly. Yes, AUTUMN is here!!!! And you know what that means... Halloween is just around the corner. In fact, today marks 40 DAYS UNTIL HALLOWEEN!!!

52 Days

When one thinks of time in terms of days, sometimes one gets a bit confused and isn't really grasping the whole "it's freakin' close to the day!" Today marks that type of day for me

We've been working away at various projects, acquiring new items for our displays and generally being la-Dee-da about the whole Halloween time frame.

 Until this morning.

This morning I realized that DAMMIT it's only 52 days until the BIG DAY - and that means less time till the invitations have to be delivered and even less time still for the fencing for the graveyard to be put up... usually the first of October if it doesn't rain LOL and how the heck are we going to find the time to finish the projects (like the new cemetery gates which are 6.5 feet tall and still need the moss and vines added plus some final paint touches done)??
Father Time, you really snuck our favourite day up on us this year, didn't you?!

The cutest little Zombie...

Our little Zombie... she's so cute! Adopted at 2 months old into our Halloween Home, she joins Monster (as in Frankenstein's Monster) and Spooky. She is a true terror to her new siblings and a turns into a white blur when we scold her. She is now 2.5 months old we are hoping that she will calm down and be a bit more docile and slow LOL

While cruising around on some other blogs I found a very cool Grandin Road video (although old, since it is from 2011) on Ghoulie Girls blog. Haven't had the chance to shop at a Grandin Road store yet (it's not in Canada) but it is on my list of places to go the next time we are far enough south in the USA. Check out the video for some amazing items and ideas for your own haunt. Happy Haunting!

Bats, Bats and more Bats!

We all know that bats have had a bad rap in many a horror or Halloween flick but these wonderful little creatures with bright shiny eyes are super cute and very important.

Did you know there are 1,200 known species of bats? Bats can be as large as a small dog or as small as a bumblebee! The bumblebee bat has a wingspan of 15cm and can weigh up to 2 grams! Now that is tiny!
I love bats (so much so I even have a bat tattoo). Did you know that 2011/2012 is the 'Year of the Bat'? The two-year long global species campaign is set to be promoted through numerous events throughout the world.

Bats are important pollinators of many plant species. Some are primary consumers of nocturnal insects and can consume up to 100% of their body mass per night -- that's a lot of insects!!
Check out the full link (with videos too!) HERE
In the event that you find a bat outside on the ground remember that it should NOT be touched with bare hands. Contact a wildlife rehabilitator in your area or check out Batworld.org for locations and more information or call the Bat World Sanctuary.

Brain Drain

You should never pick a service company soley based on name; reputation and cost should play a part too... however I do have to say that if this guy had his business around our place we'd have to hire him solely due to the name of his company! Or at least pay him to park his vehicle outside our house during the month of October!
